Does Aetna Medicare Plans Cover Vision Insurance and Coverage?

Yes, Aetna Medicare Advantage plans offer coverage for vision care.

Medicare Part B will pay for a yearly eye exam for diabetic retinopathy. It will also help pay for corrective lenses following certain cataract surgeries. Generally, it doesn’t cover routine vision care or glasses.

Aetna Medicare Advantage plans offer the same coverage as Original Medicare, and plans even offer additional benefits that cover routine vision care like eye exams, glasses, and contacts.

What vision services are covered by an Aetna® Medicare plan?

If you enroll in an Aetna Medicare Advantage plan that includes vision coverage, the aetna vision coverage may cover:

  • Annual eye exams
  • Prescription lenses
    • Single vision
    • Bifocal
    • Trifocal
    • Standard or premium progressive
  • Contact lenses
    • Conventional
    • Disposable

The costs associated with vision benefits can be included as part of your plan’s premiums or as an Optional Supplemental Benefit, which means you would pay an additional premium.

If your plan covers vision, the benefits are available to you as either an allowance or via a provider network.

A plan allowance allows you to see any licensed vision care provider. You pay the provider for their services and submit a receipt to your plan for reimbursement up to the allowance amount.

A plan network requires you to see a vision care provider who is a part of the plan network to receive covered services.
